Hanging out in T-3 Division. You have a great site here. If your wondering who I am I was your basic Deck Ape in 1st Division. Its good to see someone from those days. I have a painting of me on my wall at home with the Chicago over my head still today. In my 8 year career I have to admit Chicago was the best time I probly endured in my time in the navy. A little story about a picture at the bottom of page 91 of the final cruise book in 79. It sort of relates to my career in the service. It depicts both my beginning and my ending in the navy. What I mean is USS Chicago was my first ship where I started. In the background of the picture is the USS Duluth where I finished my career. To me it is sort of a spooky feeling each time I see that picture knowing it is pretty much my whole history at see in one shot. I ended my career in 1984 shortly after I was sent to Bierut during the crises there. The ship I was on was the first Military ship to be allowed to go through the Suez Canal in over 100 years so a former Chicago shipmate was still out there making history. I for some reason could never call any of my other duty stations home and really didn't have any wants or affiliations with them. Just didn't have the feeling Chicago had when it came to the crew. Till this day I think of the Ship and my friends from it often. One friend from R Division Nathan Maki and me are still close friends and see each other often. Thanks for having a great site. Will add a link on my website to yours. Former BM3 Mark Wilson 1st Division (Made BM2 before I got out of the service.)
