My uncle, George Fisher, was on the U.S.S. Chicago when it was torpedoed in the 1940s. He was one of the men who were killed by the initial blast of the torpedo. Since it was long before I was born, I never met him. But I've heard many stories about him and the sinking of the Chicago. I have a cousin who was also on the ship when it was torpedoed. He survived the initial blast and was ordered to abandon ship when the Japanese came it for the second attack. I've heard bits and pieces of the story, but your account gives some very good detail. Thanks again. John Sattgast sattgast@ix.netcom.com
