Hello Robb: 
My name is Lloyd Haymon I served on CHICAGO during her first tour to Vietnam.. Reporting
aboard CHICAGO  Aug 65. 
The friendships formed while serving in CHICAGO have lasted for thirty years.

We were a motley crew....we fought pirates while tied up at Subic and chased a submarine out 
of the Gulf of Tonkin... we picked up pilots during the bombing of Haiphong and Hanoi Harbor...
we never really knew what the heck we were doing we were never allowed to fire our weapons. 
CHICAGO was not allowed to ever fire her weaons during that first cruise to the Gulf... I am 
glad to hear that this mighty ship of war finally had her chance to do what war ships do.. 
fight an enemy. 
My best friend then and now is Bill Worthington YN2 of Abiliene Texas. Now a mailman in Shawnee 
OK. He and his family were on vacation in Washington state and there far below him one day was 
the unmistakenable outline of CHICAGO. He told me it took forever to find her but once he did 
he was allowed to board and look around. I have a photo of him standing next to her... stripped 
but still a proud ship. 
I have another one of CHICAGO Refueling the USS TOWERS in the Gulf during that first cruise. If 
you would like copies I shall indeed be glad to send them. I would love to have any photos you 
have of her colors being struck.
My first ship was the USS CROW DE-252 and that ship and the CHICAGO have remained forever etched
in my mind and in my heart.
