Big Show at Leela European Cafe!

On Saturday night, February 13, my band and I will be performing at Leela European Cafe, on 15th St. in downtown Denver. There will be 3 opening acts. The music starts at 9pm with Christian Seith of the Denver band Bemused doing a solo acoustic performance, followed by singer-songwriter Angie Lucht with awesome sideman Martin Gilmore. Then Jay Ryan's new band, High Race Vine, takes the stage. My band will close the show, taking the stage around midnight.

Leela is a really cool 24x7 all-ages coffee shop with a full bar and food menu. It has a big stage and a nice sound system. And there's no cover charge! So if you're a Rob Roper fan in Colorado, put this on your calendar! And click the Shows link at the top of the page for other upcoming shows.

New Band!

Speaking of my new band, Dan Heinrichs has joined my band on drums. He joins Laurie Lamar who has been playing bass with me since last summer. So we're a trio, and I'm hoping to add a lead player soon.

Iowa Tour

My Des Moines friend, singer-songwriter Big Joe Kinser, is organizing some shows in April in a couple of Iowa towns where we will share the bill. Stay tuned for specific dates and venues....

Next Record

I am having discussions with someone about serving as producer for my next record. This one will be a bigger project than my previous two self-produced EP's. Who is it? My lips are sealed....

"Rob writes songs that are alternatingly sarcastic, self-aware, and heartfelt. He delivers lines with a kind of guarded openness. In one moment he may be cursing the world for all its faults, in the next admitting that the faults he sees in the world are really his. This may sound like heavy stuff but he won't let the moment stand too long before cutting the whole thing apart with some sly observation that leaves you laughing aloud. He's a rock 'n roller and raconteur with an acoustic guitar." --Tim Riordan
You are so original it hurts." --Natalie Illeana
"His thoughtful, yet playful tunes invariably have you tapping your foot to the beat. Loves lost, destroyed and found, along with drinking songs like "The Screwup Song" make for a great evening of entertainment." --KG Morris
"Rob Roper's music is filled with wry observations of the world around him and us. He shares his unique viewpoint of personal stories and makes each audience member sit and think...'Hey, I've been through that.'" --Robert Mattson

What They're Saying About "Me"

Go to Me page

"...wittily sarcastic, poignantly emotional, and humorously edgy, with moments of beauty and grace and sadness and reflection." --Patrick Nagel

"...paints pictures of lost lovers, dreams of adventures, little girls emerging as women, and guys seeking their own niches in a tough world." --Sam Kunkle

"...funny in a self-deprecating way, reminds me lyrically of Greg Brown [and singing style] reminds me of John Gorka." --Dayna Scott

"...lyrical style is clever and insightful, with a strong sense of song structure and likable original melody lines." --Ken Langford

"Roper's literate pop/folk tunes are furnished from the same emotional stores we shop at. The songs look like us and ask 'Is this me?' And by implication is this you? Is this what you intended in your life?" --Melle Johnson

"Rob is the troubadour of the misfit...and bless him for it. He has the voice for those of us who ran into road construction on the highway to life's grandest hopes and dreams. Rob sings of the humor and disappointment most of us encounter on our less than perfect journeys through this life. But even when the subject matter turns the darkest, even in his bleakest laments, there is a human voice of solidarity and of hope showing at the edges of the despair...the kind of hope and solidarity that could actually save a life. Rob's best tune on the album is 'You Could Have Had Me.' If it isn't speaking to a universal for the rest of us less than winners, then what the hell is music for? Buy his EP and listen to it when it when it actually matters...when you need a little hope at the edges of your darkness." --Kurt Loken

"I hear the sounds of Neil Young, Elton John and Jackson Brown but I also hear the unique sound of a newer songwriter enjoying the craft of writing and expressing his observations as he journey's thru life. Rob is indeed a troubadour making the most of his love for music and for the joy of crafting the word. You will enjoy his songs if you appreciate not the fancy overlays that the digital age of music has become, but simply the songwriter himself. Enjoy." --Jenn Cleary
