Bandmates Wanted
I want to form a band. Maybe two or three bands. The band(s) will allow me to serve my various musical personalities, the rocker and the folker. Up until now, I've been serving the folk personality by playing solo acoustic shows, and have recently been acompanied by Julie Oxenford O'Brian on violin. But the rocker personality hasn't been served. So I'm now working on writing some electric songs, some band songs.
People will say the band sounds like a hybrid of The Church, The Cure, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Sonic Youth, Neil Young with Daniel Lanois as the producer.
Or not.
I'm just trying to give you an idea of what I'm looking for.
This will not be a Top-40 cover band. Don't even think about it. If we play covers, it will be stuff by the above-named bands that most people have never heard before.
I'll need a drummer and a bass player. After that, there's flexibility. I could go with a keyboard player. Or a second guitar player. Or someone who can play guitar AND keyboard (that would be perfect).
You don't have to be a virtuoso, but you must be at least as good on your instrument as I am on mine.
Although I'll be the songwriter and singer, I'd love for the band to develop the song arrangements collectively. And I'm also open to co-writing with other band members.
If you think we might be a musical match, email me. rob@robroper.com
Of course, I still want to do the acoustic songs. I'd still play solo, and with Julie on violin. But maybe the band could play those also? Or I have two bands, one electric and one acoustic? I'm open to the various possibilities.
Funny Song Band
Those of you who have known me for a long time know that I also like the funny songs and the drinking songs. So I'd also like to form a band for this. I'm thinking this might be comprised of people who are in other bands, playing other types of music, but come together with me to play funny songs every now and then. Maybe we could get a regular weekly gig at some bar, encourage audience participation (both drinking and singing). Maybe the lineup would be somewhat different every gig; people could come and go as they want. I'm thinking one other singer besides me, a bass player, fiddler, mandolin player, harmonica player, accordian player... whatever works. Email me if you're interested.
