The
Lojban Tapes are a standard set of language recordings where a word is
stated in Lojban, then its basic meaning is stated in English. When it
is completed there will be a full 400 words on the tapes, fitting roughly
on two 30 minute cassette sides or most of a CD.
This portion of the site lists these 400 words and their meanings. As I complete the recordings for a group of words I intend on linking the word to an equivalent wav file. I expect the total list of word/meaning pairs to take up around 500mb. I will cut this as much as possible by reducing the playback quality on the versions I post here, and by not including the recording of the meaning, but it is still unlikely that a high percentage of them will ever fit on the 6mb allotted by my Earthlink account.
I had originally intended on having other Lojbanists record the words on their own, and I would imitate their pronunciation. I have decided, instead, to record them myself and initiate a review process. Any and all lojbanists are welcome to review the pronunciations of the gismu on this list and send me their comments. Comments that warrant a re-recording will be placed before the mailing list, and a concensus will be taken.
I am also soliciting approval notices by experienced lojbanists. As I receive approvals I will remove recordings from the site and replace them with more recent words. I would hope that this process will go faster than the originally intended one.
