BALTIMORE BEND VINEYARD

Welcome to the Baltimore Bend Vineyard web page!! Balitmore Bend Vineyard is located in the northeastern corner of Lafayette County in Missouri between the Missouri River and historic Highway 24. The area was a focal point of travel and commerce during the 19th century, and lies on the path of the Lewis&Clark expedition. The bend was named after the story of a riverboat named "Baltimore" which sank off an island in the bend of the river.

Baltimore Bend Vineyard is a family owned and operated business that was started because of a real love of wine and a thirst for an understanding of the winemaking process. The furtile soil along the Missouri River and the mild winters allow for the growth of two varieties of grapes: the Chambourcin and the Cynthiana/Norton. Baltimore Bend Vineyard supports 1.75 acres of grapes, with a projected growth of 1.75 acres in the spring of 1999. The Genenva Double Curtain style of trellis system was erected just after the first vines were planted in the spring of 1997. Overall, the vines are maturing at a pace that was quite unexpected.
