What the heck are we selling, anyhow?

It's serialized fiction, emailed to you five days per week (Monday through Friday).  Each episode is approximately 1500 words long.  Like a superhero comic book or a soap opera--or, in fact, any television program with an ongoing storyline--our stories are meant to be started in the middle.  If you start a subscription six months after the story starts running, then you can just go on from that point, picking up the context as you go along.  Or, unlike a television program, you can order previous episodes in order to get the whole story.

What's it good for?

Obviously, it's for fun.  But it's also good for you. A 1993 study by L. Lu and M. Argyle, TV Watching, Soap Opera and Happiness (Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, 9, 501-507), showed that watching soap operas correlates positively with happiness.   If you work days, watching a soap opera usually isn't an option, but reading a soap opera on your break is entirely possible.  Then you go back to work all refreshed and happy.

Who would want this service?

Do you like science fiction or fantasy?  Then you may find that YOU want it.  There's a four week free trial, so you can try it at no cost or obligation.  At this time, Storymill only offers two stories:  one science fiction (Sherman Institute for the Gifted), and one fantasy (Erebos).  Soon, I hope, we'll be adding a mystery series by another author.  Take the free trial, and see.   By the end of the fourth week, I think you'll be hopelessly hooked, and then you'll send money for more episodes.

Why is it so expensive?  25 cents per episode, gee whiz!

Because I don't have very many customers yet.  Actually I think 25 cents per episode is still quite cheap, but one of these days it'll be a lot cheaper.  This is the least expensive form of publishing there is.  There's no middleman between the author and the reader, and no printing cost.  I suspect that a lot more writers will be doing this soon.
