Sunday, 11/30, The First Sunday of Advent

For the Sundays until Thanksgiving, Father Bill has made a special appeal that we each buy at least one item of food each week to bring to the church food basket to be given to the needy.

Also once a week, he asked that we all offer a prayer for the hungry. Father Bill especially recommends the prayer on page 835 of the Book of Common Prayer, used most often as a Grace, but also well-suited to this time of our ministry: Give us grateful hearts, O Father, for all your mercies, and make us mindful of the needs of others, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Be mindful of the needs of others:
Bring one item of food
To church each week.

The 18th Annual Delectable Poinsettia Tea is scheduled for Sunday, December 14, at 2:30 PM, at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale at Gainey Ranch. Aflyer with more info is in Holy Name Hall.

Be Green by Going Blue
The large blue bin with the recycling symbol in Holy Name Hall is for your convenience in depositing paper, and reasonably clean and dry recyclable items such as foam cups or plates. Please, NO food, liquids, paper napkins, tissue paper, and other non-recyclables in this container. Details may be found at the City's Recycling Info website.

This from Bishop Kirk Smith:
You may have noticed in the recent issue of Arizona Life that I have started a new practice called Lunch with the Bishop. I will take any of you (up to four at a time) to lunch (my treat) to talk about any subject you want. The upcoming dates are: Oct 30, Nov 18, Dec 4, Jan 15, Feb 13, March 10, April 23, and May 22. After January 1, I also will have dates set aside for those of you in Tucson and the southern part of the state. This is one time it is socially acceptable to invite yourself!

Generations Making Decisions Together
Families need to clearly talk about a variety of topics, including some on the sensitive side, before a crisis happens. Beatitudes Center DOAR has planned a conference for people from 40 – 100 about a whole range of decisions that need to be made and how to get the conversation going. Resist procrastination and denial. Cost includes breakfast, lunch, and materials ($35, or $60 for two from a family). Let's Talk takes place on Saturday, February 7, from 8:30 AM – 3:15 PM, at First Christian Church, 6750 N 7th Ave. Call 602-274-5022 for a registration brochure or visit www.CenterDOAR.org

2009 Ministry Fair
The next Ministry Fair will be held at Washington High School, 2217 W Glendale, March 7, 2009. This new location will provide better access to classrooms and a lot less walking. Cathy Black, Arizona Diocese, has forwarded to parishes information about presenting a workshop at the 2009 Ministry Fair. Her memo and a workshop request form are in Holy Name Hall.
