Aquatic
Therapy

The Wasie Therapeutic Pool at Abbott Northwestern Hospital is located just
around the block from Teachers Park Avenue Residence and is open to
our residents. The pool's water temperature is a comfortable 92 degrees and
is fully accessible to people with disabilities. Individuals requiring assistance
in the locker room or in the pool need to provide their own attendant. |

Horticulture
Therapy - An Award Winning Program

Ever since it was just a seedling in mid-1998, the Horticulture Therapy Program
has continued to grow and thrive. Garden Clubs meet regularly in each of
the five Ebenezer Central Campus facilities, including Teachers Park Avenue
Residence. With garden gloves and digging tools, bulbs and starter plants,
gardeners transform the patio at Teachers from winter sleep to spring awakening
and on into a summer explosion of vibrant flowers, vines, herbs, and
vegetables.
The Horticulture Therapy Program, under the direction of Paula Vollmer-Heywood,
Horticultural Therapist, has received many awards, such as: the "Minneapolis
Community Greening Award" signed by former governor Arne Carlson, a "Certificate
of Commendation" from the Sustainable Resources Center, "Blooming Boulevard
Awards" for all five of our Central Campus gardens for both 1999 & 2000,
and, most recently, the Minnesota Health & Housing Alliance (MHHA)
prestigious "Most Innovative Program of the Year 2000" award.
All residents are invited and welcome to become members of our award-winning
Garden Club!
Senior Internet
Connection Program

The internet provides a stimulating opportunity for continuing education
and personal development. It offers ways to bridge the generation gap as
well as the miles that may separate residents from their loved ones. E-mail
communication is quick, easy and affordable. With funding from the Ebenezer
Auxiliary and Minneapolis Retired Teachers, Inc. Teachers Residence purchased
a computer for residents and began training sessions specifically geared
to its senior population. Twenty residents have completed the training. New
sessions are scheduled as needed. |

Intergenerational
Program
 |
| Residents of Teachers welcome visits from students! Children
from the Sojourner Truth Charter School summer reading program discovered
that reading can be fun when shared with others. Students from the School
of Extended Learning have performed musical reviews. Students from Hans Christian
Andersen School loved the craft projects they worked on with their new-found
friends at Teachers. |

Reverend Jay Hillestad of Ebenezer Society makes pastoral visits to Teachers
Residence as part of an ongoing chaplaincy program. Rev. Hillestad and student
interns from Luther Seminary, St. Paul, MN, and St. John's Seminary,
Collegeville, MN, conduct Bible study groups, individual spiritual counseling,
and worship services. |
