Bud Mullins in South Carolina Bud also left Georgia, at least by 1791 and had moved to South Carolina. If he moved directly to Spartanburg County, there is no record. Since he did not own any land, he probably found someone to sharecrop with, or rent the land outright. Perhaps the key to learning where would be to see if Matthew Jefferson Sparks II owned the land in South Carolina where he moved in 1794.
Living near Bud, and next door Bud MULLINS family was enumerated in 1800. The record shows 30010-11100-00.1 Bud is between 26-44. He has a wife whose age is between 16-25, a daughter between 10-15, and 4 youngsters under 10 years of age. This would give Bud a birth year range of 1756-1774, and we know he was born in 1758-1759, which would mean he was about 41 for this census, and his wife no more than 25. The children listed next are gathered from future references: for the boys are Thomas (1791), Elias (1794), Osburn (1797-1805), and Burgess (1799), and for the girls are Rebecca (1789) and Nancy (1793). Here is how the census record of 1800 would tie in to Bud’s children:
There is
great confusion over the birth years of some of Bud’s children, which will be
analyzed later.
Suffice it to say, that these dates may not be entirely accurate.
What is listed here are the children in the sequence that they are
mentioned in Bud’s will written many years later.
One major problem is that Osborn, who states in a later census that he
was born in 1805, is listed before Burgess in Bud’s will.
Confusion abounds with this family.
Also born in South Carolina, and later in Georgia were:
The timing of Bud and his family’s move to Georgia cannot be determined. Careful research into his children, and future records, might narrow down to an approximate date.
