Clement & Prussia (Turner) MULLINS

Clement Mullins was born in Spartanburg County, South Carolina in 1804. His father Bud was living in that area according to the 1800 South Carolina Census. In about 1807-1808 the family moved to Georgia, settling first in Jackson County. There were other Mullins families that settled at this time, some also coming from South Carolina, others already living in the area.

The family of Bud and his children tended to stay together, moving to Hall County, Georgia, by 1814, and Campbell County by 1830. In this area Clement met and married, in about 1827, Prussia Turner, daughter of John Harbinger Turner I, and Heddiah (Rives) Turner. The Turner family had also lived in South Carolina, and moved to Georgia in the 1820’s.

Clement and Prussia lived in the Campbell/Cass area for many years producing 12 children from 1829 to 1854. In 1856 Bud, his father, passed away at the age of about 97. Perhaps Clement was living on his father’s land, which also belonged to his older brother Thomas. In addition Prussia’s sister, Sarah (Turner) Guest, had moved to Arkansas. Whatever the reason, in 1858, at the age of 54, Clement took his entire family, 12 children, including the families of his two oldest who were married, with  children and moved to Pope County, Arkansas.

There in Pope County, Clement and his oldest son owned land by 1860.

Clement died before the 1870 census, and Prussia lived to about 1891.
