Elias Mullins

1794 - Aft 1860

Elias Mullins, born in South Carolina about 1794 is the second oldest son of Bud Mullins, and the fourth child. He moved with Bud from South Carolina in 1807-1808, married to an unknown spouse and had at least 10 children. He moved with Bud from Hall County also settling in Campbell County by 1830. From there he possibly ended up in Hamilton County, Tennessee.

Mullins, Elias (100010-30100-0-100) pg. 150, line 1. (Hall County, Georgia, 1820)

In the 1820 Hall County census above, Elias, enumerated just after his father Bud, is in the 26 to <45 category. He was born in 1794, which gives him an age of about 26. He has 4 children all under 10. Elias was enumerated in Capt Tanner’s District.

In 1830 Elias Mullins was listed on pg. 203 of Campbell County, age 40-50 (b. 1780-1790), and lots of children: 2 boys under 5, 1 between 5-10, 1 boy 10-15, and one 20-30, and 1 girl under 5, 1 5-10, 2 girls 10-15, and one 20-30. Also enumerated in Campbell County that year were Samuel Mullins, his brother, on pg. 201, age 20-30, Bud Mullins, his father, on pg. 208, age 80-90, and Clement Mullins, another brother, on pg. 199, age 30-40.

Elias and his family are in Walker Co., GA, for the 1840 census. Wm. Thedford, Asst. Marshall on 24 Oct 1840, pg. 89: Elias Mullins 1021001 - 0222101. This gives him 11 children, with only 1 girl between 20-30, and his and his wife's ages between 40-50. This is our Elias, as also enumerated there was his brother Burgess, and possibly his sister Rebecca who has married a Childers, possibly with the name of Walter (unreadable on microfiche).

In the 1860 Census, Hamilton County, Tennessee, District 8, #057 Elias lists his age as 60, born in SC. All children's names and ages were taken from this census, and all were born in GA.  I have a very difficult time believing that this Elias is still having children when he had already had at least 11 by 1840.  But in any event I have listed the children here for further research.

Much more work needs to be done on this Elias.
