John I & Elizabeth Mullins

Back to the family of MULLINS, headed by John (b: abt 1735) and Elizabeth.

John I and Elizabeth MULLINS were in Guilford County, North Carolina where in 1772 they are recorded as selling some land.  John I & Elizabeth had probably married in North Carolina.  From records researched, they had at least two children:

  1. Swift Flower MULLINS    b: Abt. 1775 in North Carolina

  2. John MULLINS III

John & Elizabeth MULLINS settled on both sides of the Tugaloo River, before it was recognized as the border between Georgia and South Carolina.  The crossing was called MULLINS Ford.  In 1787 that triangular-shaped area between the Tugaloo and the Keowee (now known as the Seneca) Rivers was ceded by the State of Georgia to the State of South Carolina by the so-called Treaty of Beaufort, by the terms of which South Carolina honored the grants made by the State of Georgia.  “John Mullin, Jr. (this is probably John II), and Jesse Walton, Esq.” were two of the several owners of the land being effected.   That land on the Tugaloo River is now at the bottom of Hartwell Lake.  John I & Elizabeth and their son John II also bought land on the Eastanollee Creek that flows into the Tugaloo River in Franklin County.  This is where they finally settled.
