Generation No. 1
1. John2 MULLINS I (Richard1) died June 16, 1783 in St. James Northam Parish, Goochland, Virginia. He married Elizabeth "Betty" CONOLLY1 in Goochland, Virginia, daughter of Bryan CONOLLY and Elizabeth HOPKINS. She was born Abt. 1725. More About John MULLINS I: Will Dated: September 06, 1772, Goochland, Virginia2 Notes for Elizabeth "Betty" CONOLLY: 04/22/2000 In a book titled "Facets of Goochland (Virginia) County's History by Helène Barret Agee, publication date smeared out on my copy, beginning on pg. 119: (this is in the chapter on Episcopal Churches, and is referring to the Lickinghole Episcopal Church) "An unsigned and undated record in the Canonical Parish Register, St. James-Northam Parish states 'now burying ground on River Road about 400 yards west of Whittle Creek on right hand,' This record also give the following incomplete statement: 'Whereas no deed of conveyance by John Mullins, deceased, was ever executed, etc.... This record was obviously made many years ago and it is possible that the writer intended to complete the sentence at some future time. "On file at Goochland Clerck's Office is a deed dated November 21, 1801, executed by Elizabeth Mullins, widow of Connely Mullins, conveying to Thomas Pemberton and Joseph Pollard, Church Wardens, 'one acre of land on which the church now stands."

Children of John MULLINS and Elizabeth CONOLLY are: 2 i. John3 MULLINS II, born 1742 in St. James Northam Parish, Goochland, Virginia; died Abt. 1805 in Franklin County, Georgia. He married Elizabeth (Mullins); died in Probably Georgia. Notes for John MULLINS II: 03/07/2000 From Forrest Mullins I looked for Mullins living in the area around Chatham Co. Aside from the Thomas Mullins mentioned earlier I could find none in Chatham Co. But in Guilford Co., just west of Chatham and which had also been cut out of Orange Co., just like Chatham, I found John Mullins who had been granted 422 ac, No. 817, grant #84, issued 6 Dec, 1761 (before the formation of Guilford or Chatham) Orange Co., NC, Book 14, P. 454. On Lick Fork of Hogan's Creek. This John Mullins I find to be very interesting. Guilford Co., NC Deed Book 2, p. 47, 4 Feb, 1780 he sold 54 acres (part of his original 422 ac grant) to Flower Swift (make a note of this name) for ten pounds. I don't know what the going rate for land was in those days, but this sounds like a sweetheart of a deal--the kind you would make to family members. Another land deal 13 Dec, 1779, he sells 92 acres for 800 pounds. No doubt this was his house with improved land but compared to 54 acres for 10 pounds this seems a big difference. In this Dec, 1779 sale John names his wife, Elizabeth. In 1800, in Franklin Co., GA a John Mullins and a widow, Elizabeth Mullins lived. They had been there since at least 1793. John Mullins sold land to Flower Swift Mullins in 1800, Franklin Co, GA. Other than a sworn affidavit, there is no clearer information that these are the same people who came from Guilford Co., NC--at least to my mind. More than likely, the John who sold Flower Swift Mullins the land in GA was a son of John of Guilford Co., NC who had sold land to Flower Swift there. 03/31/2000 In a message dated 3/14/2000 10:34:16 AM Eastern Standard Time, willmurray@uswest.net writes: I am interested in early Franklin County, as my ancestors moved there in about 1786. Their names were Mullins/Mullen/Mullin. If you have any information about them, I would be appreciative. In The History of Franklin County Georgia by the Franklin County Historical Society I find the following: p 97 John Mullens, Jr and John Mullins, Sr appear on a list of residents of Franklin County that drew in the 1805 land lottery. John Jr drew a prize. p 107 Swift Mullin is listed as a private on a1796 _Pay Roll of a Detachment of Militia Infantry and Spyes under command of Lieutenant John Stonecypher._ p 125 A Franklin County Grand Jury presentment of July 1794 states that there was no road from the county courthouse to John Mullins Ford on the Tugalo River. p 184 John Mullins appears on a list of commissioner for Franklin County Academy, 1797-1825. p 247 John Mullins, Jr appears on a list of Franklin County slaveholders as of 1 Oct 1798. He held 2 slaves. p 309 John Mullins is listed as an early member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, founded 1805. The only Mullins in the cemetery lists was born in 1891. -Darrell darrell23@aol.com 01/15/2001 1761 John Mullins received grant for 422 acres on Lick Fork of Hogan’s Creek from Lord Granville in Rowan County.. It is the Granville Grant, Orange Co, Grant # 84, 422 ac, 6 Dec, 1761. Book 14, p. 454. 1772 John Mullins sells 140 acres in Guilford County to Thomas Mullins on May 11 for £10. 1779 John Mullins sells 92 acres in Guilford County on December 13 for £800. His wife’s name is mentioned - Elizabeth. 1780 John Mullins sells 54 acres to Flower Swift on February 4 for £10. This was in Guilford County, NC.

Henry MULLINS, born 1744 in St. James Northam Parish, Goochland, Virginia; died Bef. 1798 in Probably Franklin County, GA. He married Frances WALTON December 29, 1762 in St. James Northam Parish, Goochland, Virginia; born 1734 in New Kent County, Virginia. Notes for Henry MULLINS: 01/20/2001 1787 State Census for Wilkes County, NC, in Capt. Nathaniel Vannoy's District list Henry Mulins, 1 male over 21, 3 males under 21, and 3 females. Also he was taxed for 50 acres. Also living in this same district were John Sparcks (sic), and William Sparks; George Sparkes was in another district, and William Mullens in yet another. 1790 Federal Census for Wilkes County, NC, does not list any families of John Sparks, William Sparks or Henry Mullins. It is possible that this is not our Henry. This Henry might have moved to Rockcastle, KY in 1803, and he was supposed to have married a Mary Tony in 1760 in Goochland, VA. 1802 Franklin County records, p. 1372 Power of Attorney, 9 Nov. 1802 by Killis Walton, Robert Walton, Geo. Walton, Joseph Martin & w. Mary, all of Franklin Co. to our brother, Wm. Walker Walton, to empower the latter to recover from Thomas & Conely Mullins, administrator of estates of Henry and John Mullins, dec’d. in Gugeland (Goochland) Co., Va. Claimants said they were heirs at law of Henry and John Mullins, referring to them as our said Uncle and Cousin. Wit: Jeremiah Sparks, J.P., Rec. 12 Nov. 1802. The Walton's are obviously relatives of Frances Walton who married Henry Mullins in 1762. There were 2 sons of John Mullins who had inventory of their estates taken in Goochland in 1798, namely Henry Mullins and John Mullins. 03/14/2001 Since he might have been taxed in Goochland in 1789, it is not believed that he moved to Franklin County until 1790. Also the taxing records show him as a Captain. Need to check Revolutionary War files to confirm.
