The Murray families traveled to Texas before 1873 because the story is told that their daughter Rebecca Jane struck up a courtship with William Leslie Cobb, a farmer and a school teacher , on the wagon train traveling from Mississippi to Texas. They were married October Of 1873in Nacogdoches. James Howard Murray's grave is in the Spring Ridge Cemetery San Augustine County with a Civil War marker. Margaret Elizabeth is also buried there.
