  • July 17th, 2002: Important Cresvention information
    by Greg (The90joyle)

Hey y'all, first of all, this Friday (July 19) is the last day that the good people at the Radisson are guaranteed to offer us the Sockhead rate of $81 per room, so if you haven't already made your reservations and are planning on staying at the Radisson, get on that plastic piece of junk you call a phone and get a-dialing! The 19th marks the "2-weeks and counting" point for this giganticus rendezvous. Can you believe that?!

For those of you curious about what exactly will be going on, here is a TENTATIVE schedule. All of it is still subject to change, but it'll give you a rough picture.

    Friday, Aug 2nd
    12:00 to 3:00 Room set-up, decoration
                    Registration at 3:00 pm.
    3:00-4:00 Sock puppet making, mingling
    4:00 VIPs arrive, Introductions
5:00 Catered dinner (Chicken fettucini and options
                    for vegetarians, too)
6:30-whenever Skits/songs performed by the VIPs, some Q&A, Goodnights

    Saturday, Aug 3rd
11:00 Shuttle ride from hotel to the beach
11:30 Convene on beach, bring your own lunch, volleyball,
swimming, sand-castle contest?, other beach stuff,
                Sockheads group photo
    2:00 Return to hotel
    2:30 Informal mingling
3:00 More skits and songs by VIPs. More Q&A afterwards.
    5:00 Find your own dinner
    6:30 Talent show
9:00 Autographs and photos with VIPs, Goodnights

Last year on Sunday morning, things were very informal and people just kinda hung out in the cleaned-out room, helping clean a little and saying goodbyes. Probably the same can be expected this year.

Again, this is not set in stone, pending approval of the VIPs and your own comments/suggestions. Anything you might want to add, subtract will be considered. So give me some feedback (SCREECH!!!)--NO! not that kind of feedback! Turn your microphone down, please. We're all friends here.

    Cherish the love,

    Greg

  • July 2nd, 2002: C-vention Hotel Reservations
    by Greg (The90joyle)

It is recommended that convention-goers read this e-mail... It's not really that long. I'll make it as to-the-point as I can.

After Sockaide reported to the list that there were problems making a reservation at the hotel, just today I called the hotel and made my creservations for my room, no problem. If anybody talks to someone who says that they don't know what Sockheads is, tell them that you know for a fact that Sockheads is registered there, and other Sockheads have begun reserving rooms. Don't be surprised if they don't know anything about the convention that's going on. The people you speak to about room reservations may not have any idea about the convention, because the two are handled by different departments.

Thank you to the many people who have let me know whether they will be staying at the hotel or not, or even coming to the convention. If you know you're coming and haven't let me know, please do. Doesn't mean you're committing or anything, it's just VERY helpful to hear that from you. Those of you who have let me know that you'll need a room, now is the time to start calling to make your reservations. After July 19, the rooms are available to the general public, which means you may not be staying around other Sockheads, and likely not for the discounted Sockhead price. When you make your reservation, be sure you say that you are with the Sockhead group. Very important.

The phone number to make your reservations is 310-670-9000. Again, you have till July 19th to reserve your room. Check www.sockheads.net on the Cresvention link for continual updates, mostly posts to the group reprinted in easy-to-find format. (Thank you Gena and Paul!)

Take care, let me know if you have any questions/problems/comments.

  • June 10th, 2002: Liam Lynch and the MTV Music awards
    by Alison Hinderliter

    Hi folkses,

Liam was a consultant on the MTV Movie awards they showed last Thursday, and I asked him what parts he wrote for the show. If you haven't seen the movie parody skits, you definitely should try to catch a repeat on MTV, they are hysterically funny! rock, your friend alison (and p.s., the new breeders cd rocks ass 7 different ways.)

    Here's his response --

    >howdy,
    > I wrote stuff for the 3 movie parodies that showed... the spiderman, lord
    >of the rings and panic room films. The opening song
    >was lyrically written by several writers (not me) and the music was put to the
    >lyrics by Ben Folds.
    > Things I contributed to these movies....
    > in spiderman... i did several of jacks lines, plus things like him
    >shooting a web and grabbing a sock to stuff down the front of his suit..
    >also the yoda on his chin and the "make out with me you will". i came up with
    >the concept for the lord of the rings film... it being a piercing
    >on his penis and what would happen.. but then the writers wrote the dialogue.
    >
    > so there you have it.
    > my biggest job was just going through the scripts and rehearsing with jack
    >and being there for all the filming and helping him judge his performances. he
    >comes up with so many ideas of ways of doing things on set and i just sort of
    >told him the things i like.
    > rock,
    >liam
