Wy'east Board Meeting

August 1, 2007

Present: Susan Maginn, Mark Alter, Joanne Foulkrod, Barbara Smith-Thomas, Jill De Rosa.

MINUTES: The minutes of the June 12th board meeting were approved as corrected.

WECOMING CONGREGATION: We are now officially a welcoming congregation. Wy'east will be part of the Living the Welcoming Congregation Program, which includes 13 sessions. Joanne will speak with Karla D regarding this.

JUNE TREASURER'S REPORT: Discussion led by Joanne who stated that we are in good shape financially. We have more in savings than anticipated. Wy'east has been able to contribute $2858.38 to local nonprofit agencies and organizations in the past 12 months. The board reviewed the 2007-2008 adopted budget. Joanne noted that we are starting with a higher pledge income than last year, and that we received our $3000.00 grant as anticipated, from the UU Growth Foundation. Joanne will contact Cecilia K- M regarding submission of expenses that she is owed.

RENT HIKE & MOVE OPTIONS: Barbara has been in contact with the Quakers (Multnomah Friends) and they are interested in renting worship and education space to Wy'east, when the construction of their new Meetinghouse on SE Stark Street is ready for vacancy. No office space is available. Barbara asked for an agreement in principle by 9/01/2007. It was noted that we need to pay them a fair market value. We also need to ask them questions regarding services of union on site, and ceremonial use of alcohol, should these needs arise.

The proposed Waverly rent hike was discussed. Barbara is gathering information regarding rents at comparable sites. She will draft a letter to send to the Waverly board regarding rent as well as repair issues.

PLANS FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR: Susan discussed the 2 classes she is interested in teaching. The fall class she proposed is called "The Five Questions" and is a new version of building your own theology. A second class would be taught next spring. Susan will be meeting with the Membership Committee and is interested in serving the needs of more people in the community at large, rather than just focusing on increasing the membership of Wy'east.

The board voted unanimously to empower Joanne to obtain a credit or debit card for Rev. Maginn's use for church expenditures. The monthly bill for the card would come directly to Wy'east. This would be used primarily for books and conferences.

NEXT BOARD MEETING: Will be held at Waverly on Wednesday, August 15, at 7:15.
