Wy'east Board Meeting
September 5th, 2007
Present: Rev. Susan Maginn, Barbara Smith-Thomas, Joanne Foulkrod, Mark Alter, Karl Arruda, Jill De Rosa.
MINUTES: The Board minutes from August 15th and August 31st were approved as amended.
WAVERLY LEASE SIGNING: Two copies of the Waverly lease were signed by both Karl and Barbara. The accompanying letter of explanation (signed by Barbara) and lease will be presented in person to Rev. David Zaworski and Lisa Kane, Waverly's board moderator.
TREASURER'S REPORTS: Joanne noted one change to the July 31st report. The prepaid pledges will all be recognized in the first month of the church year. Joanne further stated that in general, the budget looks fine, without any surprises. The harvest basket collection yielded $30.00 in August. Mark will now hand deliver the special collections checks to assure they reach the intended person/s. Joanne noted that the treasurer balances the books, and the board moderator reviews them.
MINISTER'S REPORT: Susan discussed concerns and what is going well. Susan intends to meet with people individually who are interested in becoming members of our congregation. Prior to signing the membership book, 3 meetings would ideally take place. Susan wants Wy'east to create a culture that will meet the needs of children as they grow and mature. Susan believes it would be nice to involve members in religious education activities who do not have small children. Also, noted that we need more members to become involved in the membership committee.
BOARD RETREAT: This is slated for October 14th at Barbara's house, 11:00-3:00 PM. Please bring a potluck dish. Kathryn Estey will charge $200.00 for 4 meeting hours. She will donate the time spent for preparation. She will provide coaching/mentoring during this time of transition.
MEETING WITH SIMEON AND MARTY (MMMF): They still want to talk about renting to us, even though we cannot afford the proposed $1350.00 per month. Barbara proposed we offer $800.00 for the first 6 months, and $1000.00 for the second 6 months, with the first payment beginning February 1st. Barbara and Mark will meet with Simeon and Marty to continue this discussion.
COMMITTEES (per bylaws): Bylaws indicate that we publish committee descriptions and member lists each September. Barbara and Mark will peruse the membership list and look for potential committee members.
OCTOBER BOARD COLUMN: Joanne volunteered to write the next board column for the newsletter. The deadline is September 19th.
Next board meeting: 9/19/07 (tentative), 7:15, Waverly.
