J: Which task needs help other than open/close?
ŕ chalice, read for chalice,
J: Good to have many people involved in a satisfying way. Also important to prevent burn out.
J: We should clarify what opener/closer do.
Opener/closer’s job includes usher’s job, social hour preparation (juice, coffee, tea)(food is optional), assisting WC as extra hands (back stage jobs).
D: We are preparing a list of things opener/closer do.
M: When do we switch from opener to closer?
D: Closer starts with collecting.
D: Need separate lockable finance drawer.
A: Two persons required to count offering money.
Msg. To WC “opener’s job is limited to ushering. No chalice. Would prefer being careful not to burn people out.”
We need to update the handbook.
Volunteer fair ŕ must be fair for all committees.
Other committee activities:
Each board member’s assignment can be found on page 6 of leader council minutes.
Priority: Get contract for Niya with clear job description.

J: Small group ministry should be separate.
In the order of service, the visitor contact person should be switched from Judi to Sue.
Some sort of form (interests, time available) to fill out during service.
Skills bank should be created.
Forms will be handed out with order of service.
Let’s put the form on Web site and Newsletter
A: Fundraising committee (oversees fundraising effort) is non-existent. Would like to start.
Let’s explain what each committee does in the form and put a check mark box.
R: Clip board was most efficient for recruiting ushers.
Lay leader is going to do announcement, instead of each person going up front.
Mikio will check with worship committee about volunteer fair.
J: Dollar(?) grant from UUA $4,500.
(Newsletter is mailed to everybody.)
As of 6/30 we owed PNWD $500 and UUA $2-3,000. We paid PNWD but couldn’t pay UUA. UUA said “to get $4,500” you need to pay up”. Board will agree to send $2,000 (Debra and Jessica will sign), and they will give us a $4,500 check.
D: We have $8,252.01
Minus Sep. rent and Niya’s payroll
ŕ $6802.01
Niya says 45 weeks with 3 week vacation. Rick said 48 weeks with no vacation.
Niya left a noted with Debra. D: If Rick and Niya agree, it’s fine.
No benefit but salary was increased to compensate it.
Contract not written for Niya for a couple of years.
James is asking if it’s ok to order Chinook book. We did well last year. OK.
No same sex marriage was an issue last year at the move vote.
As a possible solution Frosti proposed no marriage at all in this building.
Classes happened but few people attended.
Concept of WC and Wy’east’s fundamental values.
Is it time to focus on this?
Worship committee wants it to be finished.
What is the statement we are making by being WC?
What UUA expects us to do when we become one?
We want to do it successfully.
We don’t know history and implications of WC.
We invite W. committee to join us on 9/23 for education and discussion.
D: Drawing attention to the procedure of when checks are cut – last and middle of months.
No. We respect Debra’s need.
Request for check can be submitted without talking to anybody. Form is on the office desk. Best to stick to the established procedure.
We need to deal with it.
Inquiry came. J: This should go to way side.
(check with Janelle. A: I will do it.)
Jan. and Feb.
R: I don’t want to coordinate but will help.
This is more of social action’s job.
Mikio: Worship committee
Jessica and Ann: Prep for volunteer fair
Each of us: Inform your committee about volunteer fair.
Jessica and Debra: Send check to UUA.
