Wy'east board minutes

11/6/06

Present: Barbara, Anders, Mark and Joanne

We lit a chalice, checked in, and approved the minutes of the previous meeting.

Treasurer's Report

We have the money to pay our bills. To fix the situation, Joanne will pay closer attention to the running balance, and liquidate our 7 day CD to raise the base level of our checking account.

In good news, the quarterly pledge statements caused a positive bump in contributions on November 5.This year we're already in the black for the budget, so the bump will take us into even further positive territory.

Joanne will check that all of our recently joined members have been canvassed for a pledge.

Committees

Speaking of new members, the Membership Committee is working on a New Member Packet, which would contain a pledge card among other items. They also are looking into making our website more shiny, and seeing what various volunteer jobs people are doing in our congregation.

Lifespan Religious Education continues to be awesome.

Worship has scheduled content through the end of December.

The Search committee has distributed a survey, and is working on a packet. The Board recommends that the Search committee NOT post our position nationally, and hope that the district process produces sufficient adequate candidates.

We also discussed the question of the timing of Search and Canvass. In either event, we agreed that it very much behooves us to be completely honest with all Search candidates about our congregation: about our budget, our history with Kit and Cecilia, all the issues we struggle with, as well as all the totally awesome things we do that create love and joy.

There is no Long Range Planning committee. While it is important work that should be done, we couldn't think of much that we do now that we could afford to stop.

Newsletter

Willow edited the newsletter for a year.We discussed arrangements for a concrete expression of our gratitude.

Barbara will write this month's Board column for the newsletter.

Marcia's contract

We rereviewed Marcia Stanard's contract and memorandum of duties. It looked good to us.

Special Collections

Our charity in November will be the Union Gospel Mission.

For December, it will probably be the National Indian Child Welfare Association, which is based in Portland.http://www.nicwa.org/

Piano

Linda Jo sent us a note asking us to consider options for replacing Waverly's piano. We asked Linda Jo to more fully prepare for us an explanation of why Waverly's piano is inadequate.
