Wy'east board meeting
April 23
Waverly Heights Church
Present: Debra, Joanne, Mark, Anders, Barbara
We checked in and lit a chalice.
Minutes of our meetings on April 1 and 2 were approved.
We talked about the upcoming candidating weekend, in particular how to conduct a healthy and useful congregational vote on whether to contract with a new minister.
Action Item: The Committee on Ministry will need to find a good way to communicate parts of Susan Maginn's contract with the congregation, particularly the memorandum of duties.
Nominating Committee
We have nominees for next year.
For the board:
Karl Arruda, Jill deRosa, Barbara Smith Thomas, and Mark Alter.
(Joanne Foulkrod continues)
For the Nominating Committee:
Raul Martinez and Rich Hines (Bruce Macpherson continues)
Bylaws
We reviewed draft changes to the bylaws, and discussed how to disseminate them in a way that will be understood.
Our proposed revisions may change after the congregational information meeting on May 6.
Budget
For March we ran a minor deficit, which is fine because we're in surplus for the year.
We looked at different possible 5 year trends, trying to figure out how to optimize our loan - we don't want to borrow too little money, but we don't want to pay too much interest.
A consensus emerged around balancing our budget for next year so we don't take any money out of savings.
We looked at a draft budget for next year, with many contractually predicted increases.
We trimmed a few items which were drastically underspent this year, anticipating continued reduced need next year.
Piano
There's a piano at Linda Jo's house.
It's good.
Worship committee has a plan for a fund raiser to cover the cost.
Future Meetings
We're meeting Susan Maginn on April 27.
Then we meet on May 2, and again May 30.
May 30 is the handoff to the new board: a potluck at Barbara's house.
