Wy'east Board Meeting
January 3, 2007
Waverly Heights Church
Present: Mark, Joanne, Barbara, Anders
We checked in and lit a chalice.
We made some minor edits to the previous minutes and approved them.
Donations
2 people have offered us computers.
We are very grateful to Paul Henerlau and Rich Hines, and Chuck Smith for offering to setup these new computers.
They will help us work better.
Meetings
Mark will pick up Anders at the airport so he can attend our next meeting.
Yay, Mark.
Newsletter
Abbie is continuing to work hard to make our newsletter awesome.
She needs someone else to help.
Discussion followed.
We put off until the next meeting which board member will write next month's column.
Search
The packet is in pretty good shape.
Kit loves us all and will be happy to write a letter for the packet.
We discussed how much of our history should be in the packet.
Religious Education
We asked the Lifespan Religious Education committee to proceed with getting background checks on all adults who spend time with our children.
They have a quantity of money in their budget which could be used for this.
The Council of All Beings is being planned, and we're excited.
Last year we talked about an environmental special collection as part of that.
It might be a good idea this year.
Worship
The worship committee asked us to think about people borrowing stuff.
Many hymnals have disappeared over the years.
The good microphone only recently returned.
Our juice cups have recently vanished, along with a banner or two.
We discussed.
To some extent, this problem is inevitable.
The only things we thought of were: Invite people to bring stuff back, like hymnals, every once in a while.
Create a central inventory/check out system, so we know where stuff is.
And you know we know.
Welcoming Congregation
In 2004, our congregation voted to welcome and accept GayLesbianBiTrans people.
But we didn't certify ourselves and the process leading up to that with the national Unitarian Universalist Association.
Joanne will try to rustle up some institutional memory out of some people and get us our gold star.
We still welcome GLBT people, but it'd be nice to be on the official list.
AGM
There's a meeting in Boise soon.
We get 2 voting delegates, each of whom gets money for travel.
Barbara is going, and will announce in church that we could send someone else.
Fundraising
Joanne and Barbara are still getting information on the PortlandVancouverAreaCongregations plan for fundraising around the national UUA meeting in June.
Social Hour
Jessica Marlitt gave our church many, many many hours and is awesome.
We need a new Social Hour coordinator.
Discussion followed.
About who might be a good candidate.
But I won't put in any names here because I don't want to hurt any feelings.
Long Range Planning
We don't have a long range planning committee.
So the board needs to do it.
We think we might use a meeting, 2 hours tops, where other committee chairs join us and we figure out where we want to be in 5 years.
And what we have to do this year to get there.
Cecilia would bring a lot of goodness to this meeting.
And, it'd be good to have a 5th board member so we can do things without one of us if someone is sick.
