Wy'east Board Meeting

Friday, August 31, 2007

PRESENT: Barbara Smith-Thomas, Joanne Foulkrod, Mark Alter, Karl Arruda, Jill DeRosa.

This meeting was dedicated to the discussion of the lease agreement with Waverly and the potential renting of worship space from the Multnomah Friends. A lengthy discussion followed. During this meeting, a call was received from Simeon Hyde, representing Multnomah Friends. We were informed that the monthly rent would be a minimum of $1350.00.

CONCLUSIONS:

  1. Wy'east cannot afford a rent increase from $650.00 to $1350.00 per month. Barbara will send a letter to Simeon declining their rental offer. The emphasis will not be that Wy'east believes this amount is unfair, but rather that this is not within our budget at this time.
  2. Our lease with Waverly will expire on September 1, 2007. Waverly wants to eventually increase the rent to $1000.00 per month and proposed doing so in $50.00 increments every 2 months. Another option was to pay $850.00 dollars per month for the next year. Currently our lease has a two-way 120 day escape clause. The board decided to propose to Waverly that we start with an increase to $700.00 for September, and thereafter increase the amount by $50.00 every two months. Otherwise, the lease agreement to remain unchanged. Joanne and Barbara will address this issue in the form of a letter to Waverly, and will enclose a lease agreement. The letter will also address meeting with Waverly to discuss issues regarding perceived "wear and tear" to their building.
  3. The board will continue to explore possibilities for a new space to rent.

NEXT BOARD MEETING- Wednesday, September 5, 7:15 PM at Waverly.
