Writer's Aids

One of my collateral duties at Ardeon is to manage the Writer's Exercise List. Each month I prepare a discourse on a typical writing problem and submit it to the group along with an exercise designed to focus on the specific problem being discussed. Our writers are given 15 days to submit the exercise and another 15 days to critique at least three of the exercises submitted by other list members.

I gather information on the exercise topic from books and articles in my possession and from articles found on the Web. I extract, condense, and rewrite most of the information into a simple point-by-point essay to be used as background material for completing the exercise.

From the Ardeon Writer's Exercise List:

Sentence Fragments
A discusson arose during the 1st Exercise concerning when it is allowable to use sentence fragments in writing. This is the result of my research.

Those "ly" Ending Adverbs
Do "ly" ending adverbs and adjectives really weaken your writing or is this just an obcession with certain critiquers?
